In 2005 we, Jolande Siepman and Eelco Grebel, left our house in the city centre of Utrecht, The Netherlands, to set out on a new journey, with the view to live in the French countryside.
Since 1780, Le Grand Bois has been well known in the area. Traditionally it was an inn, where travellers could relax during their journey through the hills. Nowadays, the inn is a guesthouse and the adjacent wooded area is a 3-star, natural camping ground.
We offer a variety of accommodation styles, ranging from rooms and apartment in the guesthouse, to luxurious safari-lodge tents, to tunnel tents and pitches on the camping site for your own tent or caravan.
You are welcome for any length of stay in either style of accommodation, be it one night, a weekend away, or an extended holiday with your family and/or friends. Maybe a sports club celebration, a party, a group meeting, a wedding, a corporate event … whatever your reason to stay in an oasis of calm, in the middle of nature, Le Grand Bois caters for all ages and group sizes.
The area offers an interesting combination of history, culture, tourist and sporting activities, as well as diverse natural surrounds for you to discover. Under the environment chapter on this site you can find many ideas for activities, including walks starting from right outside Le Grand Bois, a list of local markets, museums and fun things for kids to do.
Le Grand Bois is located between Bourdeaux and Dieulefit, rural villages with many local shops, cafés and weekly markets. The Drôme is also a very popular area for hiking. There are a number of signposted walks along the campsite, including the historic ‘Huguenot trail’, and the ‘GR 965’. And walk lovers should not miss the nearby Saoû forest, a beautiful and famed geological nature reserve.
Nice quiet place in nice area. There is much to do and discover in the area. We were in la Nouba (log cabin) which was fully equipped. Nice view. Friendly welcome too. A relaxed vacation.
We had a beautiful stay in this chalet with a terrace very pleasant to live, swimming pool in the immediate vicinity, very well equipped and of good taste. All in a campsite very well kept and quiet. The surroundings are also very beautiful and it is located in altitude (700 m) compared to the valley, which allowed us to have fresh night during the hot week. The bar / restaurant / bakery is a plus. In short, it was perfect for us.
